Introduction/Overview Section
Exodea Europe Consulting was appointed by Cork County Council to develop the socio-economic profiles to underpin the North, South, and West Cork Local Development Strategy (LDS) for the LEADER Programme 2023-2027. The profiles were required to incorporate a comprehensive analysis of the statistical data and research for the respective geographical areas.
Project Details Section
Exodea Europe Consulting maintains an in-house GIS service that was used to generate and present the relevant data. The project involved the following tasks:
Data Collection and Analysis: Collecting and analyzing statistical data and research to identify key trends and issues that could be addressed in the overall strategy development.
Socio-Economic Indicators: Outlining the current position in the area relative to key socio-economic indicators (economic activity, labour market, demographics, etc.) and aligning with the emerging LDS objectives and actions.
Identification of Key Changes: Identifying any significant changes or pressures that have arisen compared to the national picture, such as marked changes in employment or sustainability issues in specific business sectors.
Target Group Identification: Identifying LEADER target groups, including those who, if supported, could substantially contribute to the rural economy and community well-being.
Development Opportunity Identification: Identifying key, unexploited developmental opportunities within the areas.
Outcomes/Results Section
Foundational Evidence Base The project successfully provided a robust and verifiable evidence base, drawing on official statistics from sources like Pobal Maps, the Pobal HP Deprivation Index, and the Central Statistics Office (CSO). This data was crucial for underpinning the entire North, South, and West Cork Local Development Strategy.
Strategic Insights The profiles provided strategic insights into socio-economic trends, developmental opportunities, and target groups. This information enabled Cork County Council to make informed decisions and create a more effective and targeted strategy for the LEADER Programme.
Alignment with LDS Objectives The analysis ensured that the profiles were aligned with the emerging objectives and actions of the Local Development Strategy, facilitating a seamless transition from data analysis to strategic planning and implementation.
